Putting the community first

One of the achievements I am particularly proud of is Council becoming debt-free.

In November 2025, Glenorchy City Council paid off the last of its debt. I see sound financial management as essential because it gives Council a stronger foundation to maintain services, invest in infrastructure and plan confidently for the future.

Reopening the Glenorchy War Memorial Pool has been one of my major priorities as Mayor.

Working with Council, government, community and the project team, we have progressed the repair and reopening of this much-loved community facility. The pool is due to welcome swimmers back on    

1 October 2026. 

Community safety has remained an important focus during my time as Mayor.

Council's work includes initiatives aimed at improving safety - more CCTV cameras, improved lighting, security guards, cleanliness, public amenity, graffiti management and fabulous  partnerships with Tasmania Police and community partners. 

Council strongly advocated for a dedicated Youth Hub because I believe young people need places where they feel welcome, supported and connected.

The Glenorchy Youth Hub is now open and being actively used. By June 2026, more than 50 young people were attending its regular Thursday drop-in sessions each week, with additional sessions being introduced.

I have supported continued investment in the places where families gather, children play and communities connect.  These include KGV precinct, North Chigwell Oval and 20 playspaces.

Council has completed projects including the Apex Park playspace and pocket forest, while further investment is planned at Tolosa Park, including a new inclusive destination playspace. 

I want Glenorchy to be a city where local people can find opportunity close to home.

Council-supported initiatives such as the Glenorchy Jobs Hub are helping connect residents with employment and training. Between July 2025 and June 2026, the Hub supported 288 people into employment and made 280 training referrals.

Major projects matter, but so do the everyday things people expect from their Council.

I have continued to support investment in roads, footpaths, parks, playgrounds and the renewal of Council infrastructure, while keeping financial sustainability firmly in view. Council’s 2026–27 program includes road and footpath upgrades, flood mitigation and improvements to parks and recreational facilities. 

I have worked to keep Glenorchy’s major future projects on the agenda with both state and federal politicians by advocating for the funding needed to deliver them.

Council priorities include the next stage of Tolosa Park, the Berriedale Foreshore destination playground, Humphreys Rivulet Path, further street art and a new state-of-the-art Regional Aquatic Centre.

I want Council to lead by example through practical environmental action.

We are expanding electric and hybrid vehicles, using solar power on Council buildings, improving recycling and waste services, planting more trees and investing in greener public spaces and environmental restoration.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now!
